Snow Management Academy:  It is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Snow Academy course that you have taken the Basic Snow Academy first.  It is also a requirement that all Advanced Snow Academy attendees attend the Snow Symposium which requires a separate registration.  Once you register below for the Advanced Snow Academy, please click here to register as an attendee of the Snow Symposium.

Since the inception of the event, the International Aviation Snow Symposium (I.A.S.S.) has been committed to providing the most comprehensive winter operations training in the industry. This specialized training helps participating airports achieve the highest levels of airfield safety.

Certified by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) the International Aviation Snow Academy features classes designed to provide current, relevant and focused training for snow and ice control measures at airports, including FAA FAR Part 139 certificated airports.

 

Basic Snow Academy

The International Aviation Snow Academy course educates airport employees, contractors and service providers including airport operations specialist, airport equipment operators, airport supervisors and managers, and airport stakeholders on how to utilize best practices while performing snow and ice control measures on airports during winter operations.

The Curriculum includes...

  • Airport and FAA regulations related to Airport Snow and Ice Control.
  • Runway assessments and runway condition reporting.
  • Introduction to Aircraft Deicing.
  • Material resource applications.
  • Proper Communications and regulations.
  • Snow Removal Equipment designs, capabilities and operations.
  • Winter weather forecasting. Understanding basic terms and application of forecasts.
  • Human resource factors and the effects on winter operations.
  •  Additional Current regulatory requirements
  • Safety Management System exercise.

Graduates of the International Aviation Snow Academy curriculum receive a certificate. Individuals must graduate from this course before moving on to the more advanced course.

Advanced Snow Academy


The Snow Management Academy course is designed to provide airport supervisors, managers, and directors with a stronger knowledge of how to operate safe, efficient, and successful winter operations that meet regulatory and fiscal requirements of all size airports including FAR Part 139 certificated airport.

  • Financial Impacts of Winter Operations
  • In depth review of regulations that enhance airfield safety.
  • Materials and equipment Management
  • Snow and Ice Control Planning and Management
  • Introduction of Fatigue Risk Matrix

Participants in the Advanced curriculum must participate in a case study that includes the development of...

  • winter event budget and cost analysis
